From her early days of teaching her stuffed animals in a crib, deep down Kelly Haakenson knew she wanted to pursue a career in education. Initially, she studied Exercise and Sports Science due to her passion for swimming, but soon realized it wasn't the right fit. After switching to teaching, Kelly never looked back. Kelly works at the Salt Lake Center for Science Education (SLCSE), a charter school in the Salt Lake School District. Her primary focus is generating authentic learning experiences for all of her students… even if it means driving a Prius to the top of a mountain in Nevada to observe birds. Kelly’s passion and enthusiasm for education is apparent to all who know her. Tune in to this episode to learn more about Kelly's journey from an aspiring Olympic swimmer to a dedicated educator.
